If you don't have any games that support Remote Play Together, I suggest testing it out with a cheap one, just in case it doesn't work well with your particular internet setup and friend group (and you can always refund the game).Īs runner-up for the best recent streaming-related feature, I'll throw in a nod to Discord's Go Live streaming, which was introduced in the summer of 2019. (And you don't need gigabit fiber, it's just nice.) So, with the caveat that Remote Play Together is best if the host has a fast internet connection, it really can work. It worked fine a few times, but sometimes it would work for a bit, and then the stream would get super artifacted and become unplayable for the remote players.Īfter Tom upgraded to gigabit fiber internet, the experience become much more consistent, to the point that he could stream a five-player game with one player in England (like me, Tom's in California), and the only issue was input delay that was bad enough to be "noticeable," but that they could play through. Things were a bit shaky with his old internet connection, which he tells me got around 125 Mbps down and between 10 and 15 Mbps up. It is a great all round experience and I do not regret a single moment.Tom has run a few of the Steam Remote Play Together sessions I've joined. I then waited a long time with a lot of hype for the next game and it didn't quite have the spark from over 2 years ago that ignited the trilogy.įor the price though you cannot go wrong. Maybe I got too wrapped up in it and I saw an amazing free puzzle game move into a paid-for amazing sequel. I love this series with all my heart and I will buy Total Mayhem's next game without question. This game still has its moments don’t get me wrong but (I’m looking at you Lore person) there is none of the stuff like in WWHToo in the left notes and clues that add to the drama of the story.Īctually now reading though what I wrote, it looks like I hate this game. Where did the creepiness go? WWHTogether lost a huge chunk of what made it so compelling and weird and different in this new game. No books to read, no notes to find, no audio to listen to, nothing. Why? There is virtually no story in this game. There is actually a credit for Lore in the end credits. The story promised in the trailers seems like an afterthought in the final product. There was something huge at play but in my humble opinion it all fell flat or wasn't realised at all. We Were Promised some kind of huge reveal of demonic pacts and Infinite Jests from the trailer. I didn’t need the more polished graphics. Who were they trying to appeal to? We Are All Here because we love the first 2 games. I don’t know why they felt the need to push the graphics forward. I was very happy with the first two games. congratulations on yesteryear graphics The devs have obviously spent a lot of time on upgrading the graphics but to be honest they aren't much better than some top puzzle games from 20 years ago. Anyway, all in all satisfaction is to be had from solving these. I don't know if I just see Myst in everything now but there were a few puzzles in this game where I was like."Oh Myst Revelation.Oh, that's right out of Riven.wow, that's a direct lift from, oh wait, We Were Here Too." I have no idea why they put in the almost exact same puzzle from their other game into this one. There are a couple which were a bit obtuse but were solvable in the end. The puzzles in this game were pretty good. It felt nice to be able to jump around together. WWHTogether allows you to actually be together for some points and this is a refreshing take on the series where you are usually separated and only have your walkie-talkie to get you through. Why should you solve them? Well, why are you here? Go big or go home. The We Were Here trilogy centres around an expedition to a frozen wasteland where there is a castle filled to the brim with devious puzzles for you to solve. Fear not, there will be NO SPOILERS FOR ANY of the trilogy in this review. Chances are you already have so I am writing this review with that mindset that you have played the others. We Were Here Together is a must have if you have played the other games, so go right ahead and give the free game We Were Here a shot first if you are on the fence. Honestly this is better polished than the first and second instalments but lacks the charisma of them both.
